A showcase of new music by students from Guildhall’s Electronic & Produced Music department, inspired by pieces in the Courtauld Gallery.

A Bar at the Folies-Bergère by Édouard Manet depicts a subtle tension between presence and absence. The barmaid is right in front of us, but her eyes stray, and the mirror behind her splits the scene into layers of ambiguity, distance, and reflection. A sense of longing for connection rather than something well-defined is created by this visual dislocation. In my musical piece, I explore a similar emotional state through restraint and suspension.
